Description
MOTS-C is a 16-amino-acid peptide encoded within mitochondrial DNA. We supply MOTS-C as a white freeze-dried powder in 10MG or 40MG vials for metabolic and mitochondrial research.
What is MOTS-C?
The name stands for mitochondrial open reading frame of the 12S rRNA type-c. The peptide was described in 2015 as one of a small group of mitochondrial-derived peptides, short sequences encoded by the mitochondrial genome rather than nuclear DNA.
Its sequence is Met-Arg-Trp-Gln-Glu-Met-Gly-Tyr-Ile-Phe-Tyr-Pro-Arg-Lys-Leu-Arg (MRWQEMGYIFYPRKLR).

MOTS-C in published research
Published work, mostly in cell and mouse models, has examined the mitochondrial peptide in relation to AMPK signalling, glucose handling in skeletal muscle and responses to metabolic stress. It is also studied as a signalling molecule that can move to the nucleus under stress conditions.
It is combined with GHK-Cu and KPV in our triple blend.
Preparation, handling and storage
MOTS-C is shipped as a freeze-dried (lyophilised) solid. Lyophilisation removes water at low temperature and pressure, which generally makes a peptide more stable in transit and storage than a solution. Before use, the powder is reconstituted with a diluent chosen by your protocol. Common laboratory options include bacteriostatic water, sterile water, dilute acetic acid or a buffered saline such as PBS. Add the diluent slowly down the inside wall of the vial and swirl gently rather than shaking, which can cause foaming.
Keep unopened vials sealed, cold, dry and away from light. After reconstitution, refrigerate the vial and mark it with the date and concentration. For storage, keep sealed vials at -20 °C, protected from light and moisture. Where your protocol allows, divide material into aliquots to avoid repeated freeze–thaw cycles.
Ordering from Alpha & Omega Peptide
Every listing on our site shows the compound, strength, format and product reference (SKU), so it is simple to match what arrives with your lab records. We describe each item factually, without claims about effects or outcomes, and we answer product questions by email rather than offering usage advice. You can add reconstitution and handling supplies such as bacteriostatic water, acetic acid solution, PBS and mixing syringes to the same order from our lab supplies range. Frequently asked questions
What strengths of MOTS-C are available?
It is available as 10MG or 40MG vials. Select the option you need above the add-to-cart button; the price updates to match.
How should MOTS-C be stored?
Keep unopened vials sealed, cold, dry and away from light. Once reconstituted, keep the vial refrigerated and, for longer storage, follow the frozen-storage note on the label. Record the product reference and the date opened in your lab notes so results can be traced back to the material used.
Is MOTS-C for human or animal use?
No. It is supplied for laboratory and in-vitro research only and must not be administered to people or animals. We do not give dosing, administration or medical advice.
